California only 1 year left of water
Scientist has estimated that California
has about 1 year left of conserved water. Long-term drought will be a turning point, because the state
might not have enough water in the reservoirs to make it to next year,
according to one NASA water expert. California has no contingency plan for a
persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought),
except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain Famiglietti
wrote. In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.
I will start helping the environment by using
water. The way I plan to do that is to take quicker showers, water the plants
less, and conserve more water.
